Red & Green Chameleon

COLOR FAMILY

Description

Red & Green Chameleon is one of our most requested colours, and for good reason: consistent batch-to-batch matching means the bottle you buy today sprays exactly like the one your build needs next time.

Red & Green Chameleon uses colour-shifting interference pigments, the same optical technology behind modern OEM chameleon and pearl paint jobs that became popular on custom cars from the 2000s onward. The finish genuinely changes hue depending on the viewing angle, so it rewards careful base-coat prep and good lighting when checking colour match.

Red & Green Chameleon is a lacquer paint that is engineered specifically for airbrush application. Its fine micro-pigmentation is optimised for 1:18, 1:20, 1:24 and 1:43 scales, preventing heavy paint buildup over delicate body lines, engraved panel gaps and carbon-fibre weave detail. The paint comes pre-thinned and ready to spray, giving smooth atomisation straight out of the bottle. As a transparent toner, it should be built up in several light, even coats over its required metallic base rather than sprayed heavy in one pass, which would trap solvent and cloud the effect.

💡 Laboratory Application Tips

  • Preparation (Primer): A Chrome or Silver metallic base coat is essential, not optional: this is a transparent toner colour, and it relies entirely on a reflective base underneath to generate its depth and colour-shift. Painting it over a plain primer will produce a flat, muddy result.
  • Painting Technique: Apply in thin, wet-yet-controlled coats with slightly overlapping passes. Because lacquer levels itself as it flashes off, thin layers build density without hiding fine surface detail or creating an orange-peel texture.
  • Finishing: A dedicated Gloss, Satin or Matte Clearcoat, matched to the real vehicle's factory sheen, should be applied afterwards to protect the colour coat and seal any decals before final polishing.

⚠️ Chromatic Fidelity Notes

Real Scale vs. Miniature: This formula is adjusted to counter the "scale effect," so light reflection on the miniature stays proportional to the real vehicle or object rather than looking artificially pale or dark.

Visual note: Product photos are for reference only. The full three-dimensional depth and true pigment brilliance only become visible once the model is painted and properly clearcoated.

👉 Add Red & Green Chameleon to your cart — our modelers keep coming back to this colour because it simply performs, coat after coat, build after build.

Information

Instructions:
For best results, it is recommended to apply a gloss black base coat using our FSC001 Black or Black Gloss FSC104 before applying chameleon paint. The semi-transparent nature of this paint allows you to achieve different color changing effects by applying thin layers until you reach the desired color intensity. Make sure each layer is completely dry before applying the next layer, with a drying time of 5 to 20 minutes. To obtain the best results, it is essential to shake the bottle well to ensure that the paint is well mixed. This paint was designed for use with an airbrush only, and it is recommended to paint at a pressure of 1 to 1.5 bar with 3 to 4 thin layers. The ideal environment for painting is between 20°C and 22°C, with a minimum drying time of 5 to 20 minutes. It is important to note that these paints should not be used in cold or very humid environments, as this may affect the performance of the paint. To thin the paint, if necessary, you can use Fire Scale Modeler thinners, but avoid using white spirit, acrylic thinners or cellulose thinners as they are not suitable for this paint. Tools can be cleaned with acetone, avoiding cellulose thinner or alcohol.
Safety:
When using this product, it is essential to work in a well-ventilated area, wear a mask and keep it out of the reach of children. Also, make sure the lid is closed tightly after each use. Avoid using the paint near heat, sparks or flames during the painting process to avoid scratches. In terms of health and safety, this paint is harmful if inhaled and irritating to the eyes. It must be kept away from sources of ignition and smoking is prohibited. Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes and, in case of contact with eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water and consult a doctor. It is recommended to wear suitable gloves and apply the paint in a well-ventilated area. Please note that these paints are intended for use and sale exclusively to modelers over 18 years of age. If poisoning occurs, contact emergency services immediately.
