Description

🎯 Why modelers keep CHROME on the shelf: this is the shade builders reach for when a factory-accurate finish has to survive close-up scrutiny — from contest tables to camera macro shots.

CHROME recreates a metallic factory finish, where fine aluminium flake is suspended in the pigment to catch and scatter light the way the real paint does. Metallic finishes became standard on production vehicles from the 1930s onward and remain one of the most requested effects in scale modeling for their depth and realism.

CHROME is a lacquer paint that is engineered specifically for airbrush application. Its fine micro-pigmentation is optimised for 1:18, 1:20, 1:24 and 1:43 scales, preventing heavy paint buildup over delicate body lines, engraved panel gaps and carbon-fibre weave detail. The paint comes pre-thinned and ready to spray, giving smooth atomisation straight out of the bottle. Metal flake settles unevenly if sprayed too wet, so slightly drier, well-atomised passes keep the flake orientation even across the surface.

💡 Laboratory Application Tips

  • Preparation (Primer): A Black or dark Grey Primer is recommended for metallics: a dark base deepens the metal flake and gives the finish the same three-dimensional depth seen on the real vehicle, rather than a flat, chalky sheen.
  • Painting Technique: Apply in thin, wet-yet-controlled coats with slightly overlapping passes. Because lacquer levels itself as it flashes off, thin layers build density without hiding fine surface detail or creating an orange-peel texture.
  • Finishing: A dedicated Gloss, Satin or Matte Clearcoat, matched to the real vehicle's factory sheen, should be applied afterwards to protect the colour coat and seal any decals before final polishing.

⚠️ Chromatic Fidelity Notes

Real Scale vs. Miniature: This formula is adjusted to counter the "scale effect," so light reflection on the miniature stays proportional to the real vehicle or object rather than looking artificially pale or dark.

Visual note: Product photos are for reference only. The full three-dimensional depth and true pigment brilliance only become visible once the model is painted and properly clearcoated.

Information

Specifications:
- Ultra-fine pigmentation (does not obscure panel lines or surface details). - Resistant to masking and sanding. - Ready to use (pre-thinned for airbrushing). - 30ml Standard Size - Optimized for 1/24 - 60ml Value Pack - Great for 1/12 or 1/8 - 120ml Giant Scale (1/12, 1/8) Optimized
Instructions:
- Preparation: Apply the Black Gloss 2K FSC738 base coat (follow the instructions on the label), waiting 5 to 10 minutes between coats. Allow to evaporate for 20 minutes, then dry in an oven at 50°C for 1 to 2 hours or outdoors for 24 to 72 hours. It is very important that, before proceeding to the next step, we ensure that this varnish is completely hardened and crystallized. This is essential for the chrome effect to be more reflective (more mirror-like). It is crucial that the final result is a black background that is as shiny as possible, completely dry and hardened. - Chrome Application: We applied the Chrome without mixing, adjusting the pressure to 1.5 or 2 bar and opening the product flow half a turn. We applied several coats, always ensuring the use of more air than product to avoid excessive buildup. We dried it in an oven for 20 minutes at 50°C or in the open air for 24 hours. - Drying & Microfiber: Allow to dry (20 min at 50ºC or 24 hours air-dry). Gently wipe with a microfiber cloth to remove any surface dust. Shake vigorously before use. - Optional Protection: If handling is required, apply Varnish Chrome 2k final varnish (mixed at 20% with catalyst) in two thin coats. Note: Clear coating may slightly reduce the mirror intensity. - When you get to this point, you can leave it as is, or you can varnish it with another varnish of greater hardness or shine, or you can apply colored varnishes to convert the chrome effect into colors. Recommended for airbrush application (0.2mm to 0.4mm needles). Ideal pressure: 15-25 PSI. Apply in thin, cross-coats. Touch dry in 10 minutes. Full cure in 24 hours.
Safety:
Flammable. Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear a protective mask (organic vapors) and gloves. Keep away from children.
