Guide: Candy Colours
Candy colours are translucent: they tint the base underneath instead of covering it. The base and the number of coats decide the final shade.
You will need
- Your Koloi Aqua candy colour
- A metallic base coat: aluminium, chrome or silver. The candy tints the metal, so the brighter the base, the brighter the candy.
- Koloi Aqua Clear Gloss
- An airbrush with a 0.2–0.4 mm nozzle
Step by step
- Prepare the metallic base and let it dry fully. It must be smooth and even: any flaw shows through the candy.
- Shake the bottle for at least 60 seconds.
- Build the candy in thin, even coats, letting each coat flash off before the next. Usually 3–4 coats, about 10 minutes apart. Every coat makes the shade deeper.
- Check under light between coats and stop when you reach the shade you want. Keep the same number of coats on every part of the model, or the shade will differ from panel to panel.
- Let it dry at least 2 hours, then seal with Koloi Aqua Clear Gloss.
- Clean the airbrush with water before the paint dries.
What usually goes wrong
Darker patches
More coats or heavier coats in some areas. Keep the passes even and count the coats.
Parts painted separately do not match
Paint all parts of the same colour in the same session, with the same number of coats.
