Gulf Orange represents a colour tied to Gulf's competition and road-car heritage. The Gulf Oil colours, powder blue paired with marigold orange, were created for the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40s and Porsche 917s of the late 1960s and are still one of the most requested liveries in scale modeling today.
Gulf Orange is a lacquer paint that is engineered specifically for airbrush application. Its fine micro-pigmentation is optimised for 1:18, 1:20, 1:24 and 1:43 scales, preventing heavy paint buildup over delicate body lines, engraved panel gaps and carbon-fibre weave detail. - Preparation (Primer): A Pink or White Primer is highly recommended. Because red and orange pigments are naturally translucent, a bright, uniform base ensures maximum colour saturation and prevents the paint from losing its original brilliance.
- Painting Technique: Apply in thin, wet-yet-controlled coats with slightly overlapping passes. Because lacquer levels itself as it flashes off, thin layers build density without hiding fine surface detail or creating an orange-peel texture.
- Finishing: A dedicated Gloss, Satin or Matte Clearcoat, matched to the real vehicle's factory sheen, should be applied afterwards to protect the colour coat and seal any decals before final polishing.
