Pirates Black: a deep Honda black with pearl life

Honda has long offered pearl blacks on its motorcycles and cars, and Pirates Black is one of these deep shades. At first glance it reads as pure black, but the pearl brings a subtle glow to curves and edges, avoiding the flat look of a solid black. On a model it gives fuel tanks, fairings and bodywork a rich, premium finish. Use it for Honda bike and car kits or any build that deserves more than plain gloss black, sprayed over black primer.

The problem with pearls

Pearl effects show every mistake: wet passes cluster the pearl into blotches, and uneven coats change the colour from panel to panel. Controlled, even, slightly drier passes give a smooth, consistent shimmer.

How to apply

1. Shake the bottle for at least 60 seconds.
2. Prime with a black primer and let it dry fully.
3. Airbrush straight from the bottle, no thinning needed. Use a 0.2–0.4 mm nozzle at around 20 PSI (1.4 bar) and apply light, cross-hatched coats, letting each one flash off before the next.
4. Keep the airbrush moving at a constant distance for an even effect.
5. Let the paint cure overnight before masking or clear-coating.
6. Seal with a water-based clear coat: gloss for a factory shine, or satin or matte for work vehicles and interiors.
7. Clean the airbrush with water before the paint dries.

Shelf life

Estimated shelf life of more than 12 months when stored tightly closed between +10 °C and +28 °C, away from frost and direct sunlight. Shake well before use; if the paint has thickened or separated and does not remix, do not use it.
