Misano Red RS7: pearl red named after an Italian circuit

Named after the Misano circuit on Italy's Adriatic coast, Misano Red is one of Audi's best-known performance reds. It is a pearl-effect paint, so the colour shifts subtly from bright red on highlights to deep crimson in shadow, giving the bodywork of RS models real depth. It has been offered on cars such as the RS3, RS4, RS5 and TT RS, and remains a favourite with owners and modelers alike. On a scale model it rewards careful layering and a glossy clear coat to bring out the pearl.

The problem with pearls

Pearl effects show every mistake: wet passes cluster the pearl into blotches, and uneven coats change the colour from panel to panel. Controlled, even, slightly drier passes give a smooth, consistent shimmer.

How to apply

1. Shake the bottle for at least 60 seconds.
2. Prime with a grey primer and let it dry fully.
3. Apply the supplied base colour first in even coats and let it dry before the colour coat.
4. Airbrush straight from the bottle, no thinning needed. Use a 0.2–0.4 mm nozzle at around 20 PSI (1.4 bar) and apply light, cross-hatched coats, letting each one flash off before the next.
5. Keep the airbrush moving at a constant distance for an even effect.
6. Let the paint cure overnight before masking or clear-coating.
7. Seal with a water-based clear coat: gloss for a factory shine, or satin or matte for work vehicles and interiors.
8. Clean the airbrush with water before the paint dries.

Shelf life

Estimated shelf life of more than 12 months when stored tightly closed between +10 °C and +28 °C, away from frost and direct sunlight. Shake well before use; if the paint has thickened or separated and does not remix, do not use it.
