RAL 6036 Pearl Opal Green: a shimmering green with depth

Pearl Opal Green belongs to the small group of RAL pearlescent shades, where fine effect pigment gives a flat colour chart a living, shifting surface. In full scale it turns up on architectural cladding, shopfronts, design furniture and the occasional custom vehicle, where a plain green would look too industrial. On the workbench it is a quietly unusual choice: a teal-leaning green that catches the light on curved panels of cars, bikes and display pieces, or on sci-fi and fantasy builds that need a colour with a bit of mystery in it.

The problem with pearls

Pearl effects show every mistake: wet passes cluster the pearl into blotches, and uneven coats change the colour from panel to panel. Controlled, even, slightly drier passes give a smooth, consistent shimmer.

How to apply

1. Shake the bottle for at least 60 seconds.
2. Prime with a grey primer and let it dry fully.
3. Airbrush straight from the bottle, no thinning needed. Use a 0.2–0.4 mm nozzle at around 20 PSI (1.4 bar) and apply light, cross-hatched coats, letting each one flash off before the next.
4. Keep the airbrush moving at a constant distance for an even effect.
5. Let the paint cure overnight before masking or clear-coating.
6. Seal with a water-based clear coat: gloss for a factory shine, or satin or matte for work vehicles and interiors.
7. Clean the airbrush with water before the paint dries.

Shelf life

Estimated shelf life of more than 12 months when stored tightly closed between +10 °C and +28 °C, away from frost and direct sunlight. Shake well before use; if the paint has thickened or separated and does not remix, do not use it.
